Terms of use
The rules for accounts, local plans, community content, reputation, and subscriptions in What’s the Word.
Eligibility and accounts
You must be at least 13 to use the service. If local law requires a parent or guardian’s permission, obtain it before using the app. Provide an accurate birth date and meet each plan’s age requirement, including 18+ and 21+ restrictions. An entered birth date is not independent age or identity verification. You are responsible for your account and email access. Do not impersonate someone, sell an account, evade a restriction, or lend another person your eligibility or attendance status.
Plans and in-person activity
Users—not What’s the Word—create and host plans. Hosts must provide accurate time, capacity, age, price, and access information. You decide whether to attend and remain responsible for your conduct, transportation, purchases, property, and personal safety. A badge, score, level, approval, or profile check is not an identity, quality, or safety guarantee.
Community conduct
Do not post or send illegal, threatening, hateful, exploitative, sexually abusive, deceptive, harassing, stalking, privacy-invasive, or dangerous content. Do not share a private address, access code, private message, report, or attendee information outside its intended audience. Obtain permission before posting identifiable media of another person.
Your content
You retain ownership of content you create. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, process, reproduce, adapt for display, and distribute that content only as needed to operate, secure, improve, and promote the service according to the selected audience. You confirm you have the rights and permissions needed to post it.
Street Cred and progression
Eligible members can rate other people whose profiles they can view; friendship or a shared event is not required for a profile rating. Street Cred must address interactions—not appearance, protected traits, or personal worth. New ratings submitted with the public-rating notice share the score, date, and optional public comment with eligible signed-in profile viewers, labeled Anonymous User. Only the recipient can see the reviewer’s identity if they have or later get Premium, subject to the rating privacy notice and account restrictions. Existing private notes and safety details are never published. Levels and badges reward qualifying participation. Premium includes 2× XP on eligible new activity; raw Street Cred scores and ratings are not sold. We may remove manipulated activity, ratings, or rewards. Neither system is a safety guarantee.
Subscriptions
What’s the Word Pro is optional and auto-renewing. The app store displays the final local price, period, trial if any, and renewal terms before purchase. Payment is charged to your Apple or Google account. Cancel through Customer Center or your store account within the store’s required timeframe. Restoring purchases does not create a new charge.
Moderation, reports, and appeals
We may limit visibility, remove content, restrict features, suspend accounts, preserve evidence, or contact appropriate authorities to enforce these terms or protect people. Reports do not guarantee a particular result. When appropriate, an affected user can request an explanation or appeal through Support.
Ending an account
You may initiate deletion in Account & data. Cancel an active store subscription separately to prevent renewal. We may retain limited records for legal obligations, fraud prevention, safety, charge disputes, or enforcement, and may de-identify content that must remain for conversation or audit integrity.
Availability, liability, and changes
The service is provided on an “as available” basis to the extent permitted by law. We do not control users, venues, transportation, weather, third-party links, or app stores. Nothing excludes a right that cannot lawfully be excluded. We may update the service or these terms and will post a revised date and additional notice when required.
Apple app license
For the iOS app, Apple’s standard End User License Agreement (EULA) also applies.
